Looe in Cornwall for self catering holidays

About Self-Catering Holidays in Looe

Looe is an estuary  town that is divided into East and West Looe by the river that is also called Looe and connected by a 19th century seven arched bridge.  Houses, hotels, self catering cottages and B&Bs rise up the steep hillsides above the harbour creating a picturesque scene based around the boats in the fishing harbour.

Looe Island lies a mile off the coast and offers a natural salt water swimming pool and two good beaches. Access is by boat. There are is a sandy beach at East Looe for family seaside fun.

Looe is an immensely popular Cornish coastal village which receives numerous visitors, especially during the warmer months.  It has a good choice of eateries, shops and pubs because it attracts so many visitors.

The West and East Looe rivers converge at the fishing town of Looe to form one river that empties into Looe Bay. Visitors love Looe because of its quaint character and fishing heritage. Colourful boats are moored along the river, seagulls cry overhead and there is that general buzz that is found in busy holiday destinations. Houses and apartments are built ascending up the banks overlooking the river and boats giving some superb views of the village and estuary.

The Quay is a bit of a warren of narrow streets with former fishermen’s cottages, shops, eateries and the Old Guildhall Museum and Gaol.  Many of the properties have been converted into holiday homes that can be rented for a few days or a week or two. This area  makes a good base for holidaymakers exploring Cornwall, perhaps planning to walk the coastal path or hoping to take in a spot of fishing.  Looe beach is generously broad and sandy making it attractive to families with young children. There are boat trips and the chance to hire a boat and explore the coast independently.

East Looe is separated from West Looe by the river. There is a bridge that connects both parts.

The quaint fishing village of Polperro is 4 miles distant, a picturesque place to visit for a day out and boat trips around the Cornish coast.
