Furniture, paintings, plasterwork and wood carvings all impress in this special late 17th century country house, which was a family home for more than 300 years. The museum is divided into eight themed galleries, which include The Work Gallery and The Outdoor Adventure Gallery. Children can imagine what it was like to be at school in Victorian times or to endure the life of a chimney sweep. This estate also offers a play area in the ‘Wicked Wonderland’ and lovely views over the lake. Entrance is free for members of the National Trust.

Whilst enjoying a cottage break in or near Combridge you may be lucky enough to catch one of the twice weekly outdoor markets held in Uttoxeter. Uttoxeter’s top attraction though has to be the National Hunt racecourse. Built in 1907, the course is a favourite amongst horse racing fans and its hospitality and race day packages attract the general public. Terrific cuisine is enjoyed in the restaurants, private boxes and marquees and the course hosts Family Fun Days with races and activities for the kids which come highly recommended for a great day out.

Families staying in Combridge are well placed to have a fun day out at Alton Towers theme park. This popular attraction has something for every family member, with thrill rides, rides for the very young and everything in between. Its season runs from late March until early November. Thrill seekers will be pleased to know that a new roller coaster is coming on line in May 2013. The park also provides thrills on the water at the Water Park, with a water roller coaster and lazy rivers.
