On the outskirts of Whitby is Sandsend beach, a lovely sandy beach and further out of town is Sandsend Ness where there are caves and fossils. Stay safe and watch the tide at Sandsend Ness if going along the ness though as you can easily get cut off and people have been washed out to sea here. It’s best not to go past the corner for this reason. This place is not recommended for children or dogs as there are steep cliffs without safety barriers. Another beach near to Scarborough is Runswick Bay, a pretty village with a nice stretch of sandy beach and a sheltered bay.
