One mile from the seaside resort of Bridlington, Sewerby village has a number of special attractions for those taking a cottage holiday in this lovely part of Yorkshire. For an excellent view, you can watch the sun go down over the bay of Bridlington and family fun is never far away.

Hints and Tips on Cottage Holidays in Sewerby

Sewerby itself has plenty to offer and the nearby area offers lots to see and do whilst on a self-catering break.  Sewerby Hall, a Grade I listed building built between 1714 and 1720, is surrounded by 50 acres of beautiful gardens. The Hall contains the Museum of East Yorkshire, where one of the rooms has the Hull born aviator, Amy Johnson, as its theme. In fact, it was Amy Johnson who opened the Hall to the public back in 1936. This museum offers excellent information and resources where you can learn about local history, photography and arts and crafts. Look out for activities at the Hall, which have previously included re-enactments of battles, classic car rallies and medieval jousting. Families can find lots to do in the grounds, at the golf course, putting greens, children’s zoo, adventure playground and crown green bowling area. The Hall itself has rooms from different periods, including Victorian, Regency and Georgian. Other noteworthy features include the Orangery, which is an impressive conservatory built in the 1800s.

One of the highlights of staying in Sewerby on a cottage break is having the Bondville Miniature Village easily accessible nearby.  This miniature village is a delightful world within a world, created in great detail. The ‘village’ has the usual cottages, shops and church and there are farm animals in the fields. It’s more ambitious than that, though, and you will see a castle, the ruins of an abbey and an encampment of Gypsy caravans. In addition, there is a windmill, a steam train, a bandstand and a charming harbour. This model village tells a story, as the villagers are seen in their daily occupations and it’s worth more than one visit because you could easily miss something.

Of course, most people on holiday want to sample the beaches. You can easily walk from Sewerby to the North Beach at Bridlington.  Bridlington North Beach is an award winning blue flag beach offering a mix of sand and shingle, set against the backdrop of the Flamborough cliffs.  If you don’t mind a very short drive, you will be rewarded with lovely beaches at Bridlington’s South Beach, Flamborough’s North Landing and Reighton Sands.  There is plenty on offer here for those looking for fun by the seaside.

Sewerby is full of unexpected treasures and makes a terrific base for a cottage holiday where you can see Bridlington’s attractions and also discover Sewerby’s own very worthy ones.  Whether you opt to stay in a coastal cottage or a cottage by the beach and whether you need pet-friendly or pet-free self-catering accommodation we hope you have a great time in this part of Yorkshire.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Sewerby, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in North Yorkshire.
