Moorsholm is a pretty little village and a pleasant place to spend time. Whilst staying there you may want to visit St. Mary’s Church, built in1892 which has an interesting story behind its churchyard. Villagers who expressed an interest in conservation projects were asked to volunteer to work on conservation areas within the large churchyard. After taking expert advice, the project has been able to preserve wild flowers, such as cowslips and hare bells, and to encourage wildlife. Bird boxes have also been placed in the churchyard. The Church Hall lawn has also seen the benefits of the project. A special sensory garden has been planted here, with the aim of offering a sanctuary of peace and quiet for its visitors.

Moorsholm is five miles from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, a seaside resort that offers some unusual attractions. Transporting yourself between the pier and the town is lots of fun via the oldest water balanced cliff tramway still working in the UK. The pier itself holds the record of being the most northerly surviving of Britain’s piers. For a chance to explore the natural world, Saltburn Valley Gardens and Woodland Centre offers an orienteering course, the Italian Gardens, an old corn mill and a miniature railway. For more of the natural world, a footpath goes through Saltburn Gill, an ancient woodland area with rare wildlife, which has been recognised as a ‘site of special scientific interest’. Surfers often descend on Saltburn-by-the-Sea and it’s also popular for windsurfing and boogie boarding.
