Villagers who expressed an interest in conservation projects were asked to volunteer to work on conservation areas within the large churchyard. After taking expert advice, the project has been able to preserve wild flowers, such as cowslips and hare bells, and to encourage wildlife. Bird boxes have also been placed in the churchyard. The Church Hall lawn has also seen the benefits of the project. A special sensory garden has been planted here, with the aim of offering a sanctuary of peace and quiet for its visitors.

For more of the natural world, a footpath goes through Saltburn Gill, an ancient woodland area with rare wildlife, which has been recognised as a ‘site of special scientific interest’. Surfers often descend on Saltburn-by-the-Sea and it’s also popular for windsurfing and boogie boarding.
