Enjoy a self-catering cottage break in Feizor, see the Dales, above and below ground from Feizor. Feizor is a hamlet in North Yorkshire with great access for walkers in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s also an excellent area for anyone interested in geology, as there are limestone escarpments nearby. This limestone gives the area a distinctive landscape, beloved by ramblers. Many of them will already be familiar with the tearoom in Feizor, which has become famous locally as an oasis of good cheer and refreshments.

What Feizor offers for Self-Catering Breaks

Keen walkers have plenty of challenges to pursue in this part of the world, but families with younger children will find some easier routes, particularly between Feizor and nearby Stainforth. Keen walkers are in the right area to take on the Three Peaks challenge. Comprising Penyghent, Ingleborough and Whernside, backpackers can tackle a single peak or, if they are fit and well prepared, can take on all three. Stay safe and be aware of local weather conditions and make sure you have suitable clothing and equipment.

There are a number of villages near Feizor to discover on a cottage break including larger villages offering excellent facilities, shopping and beauty spots. The village of Stainforth is notable for two waterfalls, named Stainforth Force and Catrigg Force. Stainforth Force is to the west of the village and many families have picnics there. Catrigg Force is a mile upstream of the village and plunges into a steep pool. This waterfall is said to have been a favourite haunt of the composer, Edward Elgar.

The attractive village of Giggleswick is also nearby, as is the small market town of Settle. Settle boasts the oldest café in the country and also the smallest art gallery in the world, contained within an old, red telephone box! The Museum of North Craven Life is also here.

Clapham has lots to recommend it, including its location at the base of Ingleborough, which is one of the aforementioned Three Peaks. Visitors come to see Gaping Gill, said to be Britain’s largest cavern and also the highest waterfall in England. It’s a potholer’s paradise, as the cave system in this area is a complex labyrinth. Ingleborough Cave is the show cave section, which is open to the public. This show cave has plenty of room for guided tours. It contains a ‘fossil gallery’ and the stalactites and stalagmites are visible in the floodlit passages. Access to the cave is through the Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail, where families can take in a lake, conserved woodland, wild flowers and a colourful display of rhododendrons.

All this is possible by booking a cottage holiday or short break in the small but valuable hamlet of Feizor. The only problem is fitting in all the activities and attractions this part of the Dales has to offer.
