The small village of West Bradley is set amongst farmlands and fields, close to Glastonbury and Glastonbury Tor.   With a wonderful rural setting yet with the seaside of Burnham on Sea just 25 miles away, a stay here could offer you the best of both worlds.  This village could be an ideal choice for a country cottage holiday or a special rural retreat getaway from which to discover some of the top attractions that Somerset has to offer.

What West Bradley offers for Self-Catering Breaks

West Bradley has some historic value and places to visit on a cottage break include West Bradley House and Court Barn, listed buildings in the near vicinity. Court Barn was originally a tithe barn for Glastonbury Abbey dating back to the 15th century and is now a National Trust attraction. The Church in West Bradley has even older roots but was extensively restored in the 19th century.

West Bradley is not the sort of place you’d expect to find thriving industry but at the West Bradley Orchards you certainly will. The orchards are well worth a visit on a self-catering break and grow different varieties of apples.  This orchard also specialises in producing cider under the brand ‘Orchard Pig’. The proprietors have an interest in pig breeds and cider hence the name. If you stay in West Bradley in September you’ll be free to see harvesting and cider pressing for yourself during open weekends at the orchards.

Those who enjoy an evening tipple will be pleased to learn that there are two pubs in the nearby village of West Pennard, the Lion and the Apple Tree Inn providing local ales and good quality food. Here you’ll be within earshot of the Glastonbury Music Festival when on and only a five minute walk across the fields to the action.

The villages and their hamlets are ideal for walkers and near to the village is a 5.5 mile circular walk that is relatively easy, taking in glimpses of the Tor, woodland, wildlife and the Lion pub.

Some interesting nearby towns to visit on a cottage holiday include Glastonbury and Street to the west and Shepton Malett to the north. The village is also nearby to where the Fosse Way Roman Road ran on its way from Exeter to Lincoln. Shepton Mallet is these days a busy centre for the antiques trade and a great place to visit if you’re a collector.

History played an important part in the development of this area of Somerset, nowhere more than at Glastonbury Abbey. With its roots going back to the seventh century, the abbey and Glastonbury Tor have been the subject of both noted events and myths. King Arthur is supposed to have been baptised and buried there and it is said that Jesus visited the place with his uncle Joseph of Aramathea. It was here too that the fairy folk once lived!  With all these myths and legends, this certainly is a fascinating, unique part of Somerset for a cottage holiday.

Whether you need to find a country cottage, a romantic cottage, large country house or log cabin, we trust that you’ll enjoy browsing  through the choices that we have available.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in West Bradley, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Somerset.
