Berkhamsted is a small market town in Hertfordshire, rich in history, with an old ruin of a castle which dates back to the 11th to 13th centuries. It is a picturesque olde worlde town which the Grand Union canal runs through. Barges can often be seen making their way along the canal, along with the ducks and the geese.

Berkhamsted offers a busy High Street with plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants but also has the National Trust’s Ashridge woods just a few miles outside of the town for those looking for quiet forest walks away from it all.

Berkhamsted is approximately 30 minutes by train from London Euston and is situated near to the towns of Tring and Hemel Hempstead.

Ashridge woods are situated a few miles from Berkhamsted and Aldbury. These are part of the National Trust’s Ashridge Estate and are beautiful woodlands with forest paths and superb views from certain spots. In the spring, visitors come to look at the carpets of bluebells. Bird and deer spotting opportunities abound.
