Knightstown is located on Valentia Island which is in the south western part of Ireland in Kerry. It is the most populous settlement on the island with only a tiny population of less than two hundred people! There is also the Glanleam House which is home to sub-tropical gardens, set up in the 1830s by Sir Peter George Fitzgerald. With an incredible collection of rare plants from countries from as far as New Zealand, Japan and Chile, visiting this botanical centre is a must if you have any kind of interest in beautiful flora.

Valentia Island is also home to its own heritage centre. Visitors can get an in-depth insight into the history of the island this way, including Knightstown, and there are often lots of displays and information available about different aspects of Valentia, from geology to the world of nature.
