Within Suffolk itself, the larger village of Long Melford with its splendid medieval buildings is only 2.5 miles away so keen cyclists can just hop on their bike and easily peddle there from Foxearth whilst on a cottage break. Long Melford has a number of country pubs as well as antique shops to recommend it. Members of the National Trust will want to visit Melford Hall by the village green for an interesting day out. Entrance is free for National Trust members. With plenty of picturesque scenery on offer, Long Melford is one of Suffolk’s best loved rural villages and is an ideal place to stop for a cream tea.
Another beautiful Suffolk village is Lavenham which is just 9 miles away. Lavenham is one of Suffolk’s finest villages with numerous medieval buildings and fascinating historical architecture all around. Also recommended for a day out, particularly for history buffs is Hedingham Castle and Gardens. Set in a generous 160 acres of gardens and woodlands, various events take place here between the months of April and October when you’ll always find something going on. Family tickets are available and the castle can be visited in the summer months.
