How many of us have memories of family summer holidays in Wales?

The good news is that although Wales is as stunning as ever, the holiday accommodation has vastly improved. We have some fabulous high quality log cabins and cottages to rent for a break in August and any other time. The properties displayed on this particular page all have some availability remaining in August. You may be interested in a full week or part of a week depending on available dates and even if there is only limited availability, why not arrange a two centre holiday on the Welsh coast and in a national park?

Welsh seaside cottages in August

Welsh beach holidays are eternally in demand during the summer months. There are such good beaches of good quality sandy and Blue Flag status. Dog owners would be more interested in simple undeveloped beaches where dogs are permitted all year round and those are also available in Wales.

Add a spot of cycling in fine August weather

One of the lovely facts about beach holidays in Wales in August is that beyond the beach and sand dunes are wonderful swathes of countryside teeming with wild flowers and good walks. A traffic free cycle trail that starts or ends in Barmouth is called the Mawddach Cycleway and it offers ten miles of safe family cycling. There is also a more challenging circular route option that rewards cyclists with beautiful mountain views of Cadair Idris.

Another lovely route, which follows the River Taff, runs from Cardiff to Castle Coch 14 miles outside Cardiff, or vice versa. There are other routes, one on the stunning Elan Valley would be especially memorable because of the area’s natural beauty. The routes alongside rivers offer the possible option of a spot of fishing in season.

Holiday cottages for August where it is possible to borrow bicycles

Cottage owners situated near cycle trails often have bicycles for their guests to borrow and use during their holiday. If this facility is not available, there will always be cycle hire shops in the vicinity.

Spend a few August days in a national park in Wales

The summer months are the best for hiking in Wales’ national parks. There is a good chance of even climbing to the top of Snowdon on a clear day to actually see the panoramic views. So often, people make the trek to find that there is little visibility at the top and that the mountain is shrouded in low lying cloud. Snowdonia is a long term favourite for people renting cottage accommodation. Again, the scenery and number of paths to walk is magic. It’s excellent for dog owners who can walk somewhere new each and every day.

The recently extended Pembrokeshire coastal path now links the Pembrokeshire National park in the south with Snowdonia in the north with a route extending all the way round Cardigan Bay. The Brecon Beacons are another August outdoor hotspot. There is always plenty of self-catering accommodation in the national parks.
