Essex cottage holidays in August

August is the last of the summer months and although the weather can be magnificent, it heralds the end of school holidays in Britain and because of the high demand for family breaks, cottage rental rates are at their highest excluding the December festive period. It can be very nice to squeeze in a week away with the family before the new school year begins.

August events to go to during a cottage holiday

How about an August cottage holiday in Essex?

The photograph above is of a view from the Chelmer Canal in Chelmsford, Essex. Chelmsford plays host to the V Festival every August which attracts crowds from far and wide. There are usually associated music  events which may include a Last Night of the Proms evening followed by a firework display.  Many similar afternoon or evening concerts are held in August all around the UK. You may wish to find a festival that you want to attend and book a holiday cottage nearby.

Another good reason for taking a few days break in Essex during August is to see the Flower Show at RHS Hyde Hall which takes place during the first week of August. Once Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Festivals are over, the various exhibits in good condition arrive in Essex for a free flower show at the gardens. Normal entry prices for the gardens apply. Other events in August may include open air theatre productions and classic car shows.

Essex is a superb holiday destinations for people who like to go sightseeing, to browse car boot sales and antique markets.  The shopping opportunities are outstanding in Chelmsford, Colchester, Basildon, Romford and Lakeside. There are also good sandy beaches in the coastal stretch from Clacton-on-Sea up to Walton-on-the-Naze.  Southend-on-Sea is more of a razzmatazz kind of seaside town where people go for days out, to the funfair and to the clubs and restaurants. A cottage break in Essex would be exciting and simply good fun.
