A surf shop is also located in the centre of town because of its location next to the coast, and there is a brilliant beach that is perfect for surfing, for those who are a fan of this thrilling and fantastic water sport. Milton Malbay has a lot for everyone, from relaxing scenery to a friendly community, and it makes a great choice of town for a self-catering break in County Clare.

About Cottage Breaks in Miltown Malbay

The town has an interesting history, beginning in 1800 when people first settled here. When the town boycotted the Moroney family as they did not want to serve them, many pub owners and shopkeepers were imprisoned by the government and by 1888, most of them were still in jail! Thankfully it is not 1888 anymore and many happy shopkeepers and pub landlords will greet visitors with warm, welcoming smiles, and after settling down into one of its charming pubs, you will soon start to feel like a local!

Located within Miltown Malbay is the village of Spanish Point, which is home to several holiday homes and cottages. Situated on the beach, it makes a lovely, relaxing place for a break and is ideal for keen swimmers as well as surfers due to the type of waves that can be seen here. The name ‘Spanish Point’ is historically significant because it refers to ship wrecking of ships from the Spanish Armada in 1588 which can be found 2.5km off the coast of Miltown Malbay. These ships were wrecked due to tragic storms, and those who didn’t drown in the sinking of their ships and who made it onto Irish land were then executed by Boethius Clancy, the High Sheriff of Clare and Sir Turlough O’Brien of Liscannor.

Miltown Malbay is home to wonderful coastal walks, quaint cottages, friendly people, stunning scenery and an interesting history. Taking a cottage holiday here is a wonderful way to experience this lovely Irish town and will give you a great sense of community and you will only wish that you could stay for longer!  Choose from farm cottages, crofter’s cottages and rural retreats in this idyllic part of Ireland.

Book a Miltown Malbay cottage and look forward to discovering some of the best of Clare on holiday.
