A holiday in the depths of the countryside is wonderful in many ways but you do need to be prepared to make sure that you have everything that you will need if staying in a very remote place. It just comes down to being organised, making lists of essential items and ingredients and freezing any fresh ingredients that you plan to cook with. Even bread can be frozen and taken out to defrost fresh every day. For that reason, try to rent a holiday cottage on Exmoor that has a freezer because it might not be that convenient to travel tens of miles to the nearest supermarket.
Once, you have stocked up on all the essentials and treats that you would like to enjoy during your self-catered Exmoor break, you can concentrate on having a great time doing the things that interest you most.
If you have children staying with you, a holiday is never as much fun unless there is ice-cream about. You may feel a need for ice cubes in your drinks at the height of summer and an ice box at the top of a refrigerator is not enough. Exmoor experiences a few very hot days when the landscape sizzles. These are the days to head for the beaches along the north coast, to Minehead, Blue Anchor or Lee Bay between Combe Martin and Lynmouth among others.
