As Trawsfynydd is close to the popular mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog which is located within the Snowdonia Mountains, it can easily be visited on a day trip from the village and there is plenty to see here including the Llechwedd Slate Caverns. The heritage railway of Ffestiniog is also located here, and you can hop aboard back in time on this incredible steam train which will take you through forestry and past mountains on a fascinating journey that is fun for the whole family.

The old market town of Dolgellau is a fifteen minute drive from Trawsfynydd and makes for a wonderful day out when enjoying a stay in a holiday cottage in the village. Perched on the pristine banks of the River Wnion, there are lots of walking routes and trails here to be taken through the mountains of Snowdonia National Park including the Cader Idris Mountain. Climbing to the summit of Cader Idris will give you spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and there are many designated walking and cycling trails that will guide you along the way.
