Set within the beauty of Snowdonia National Park, Llanbedr is a beautiful and charming village in north Wales. With stone-built cottages and a location close to some stunning areas of countryside with mountainous backdrops and endless fields and rolling hills, Llanbedr has plenty to recommend it for country breaks. It also has several sites of historical interest such as the Stones of Llanbedr, Neolithic standing stones a little way out from the centre of the village, and Bronze Age hut circles which are fascinating to see due to their history which dates back thousands of years.

Hints and Tips on Cottage Holidays in Llanbedr

The stunning Morfa Dyffryn sandy beach and sand dunes also lie very close to Llanbedr and can easily be visited daily whilst on a cottage holiday in the village. The beach stretches for several kilometres and one of these kilometres has a nudist area, one of the very few of its kind in Wales. Because of this, people come from all over the UK to Morfa Dyffryn, although it is very rarely crowded. As well as its unique nudist section, Morfa Dyffryn is exceptionally clean and lovers of nature will love spotting dolphins in the ocean which are seen regularly.

The beautiful Mochras, also known as Shell Island, is a striking peninsula just west of Llanbedr and is worth visiting on a day trip whilst on a self-catering break in this part of Wales. There are many sea shells scattered on the shores of the beach, which is where its name probably derives from, and there is also an array of colourful wild flowers in the area as well. The island is quite secluded as it can be tricky to get to, as the only way to Shell Island by car is through a walkway across the estuary of the River Artro and can only be reached when the tide is out. If you are walking, however, it is a lot easier, and visitors can walk from the Morfa Dyffryn beach which neighbours onto Shell Island. Visiting this stunning island, which lies within the margins of Snowdonia National Park, makes for a lovely day out with friends and family, and children will love collecting an assortment of pretty shells from the beach.

Llanbedr is home to numerous shops and cafes as well as two pubs including the Victoria Inn. There is also a former RAF complex, Maes Artro, towards the southern end of the village which is now a fascinating heritage museum dedicated to the Second World War. There is a restaurant within the museum serving home cooked meals and snacks, and it has a kids menu as well so the little ones won’t feel left out!

Llanbedr is full of history and beautiful spots of nature and makes for a lovely place in which to have a holiday in Gwynedd in north Wales. When it comes to finding a place to stay, choices include Welsh country cottages and rural retreats.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Llanbedr, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Gwynedd.
