Ganllwyd is home to the National Trust owned Dolmelynllyn Hall which is now a hotel set in stunning grounds and forestry, much of which is Forestry Commission and National Trust owned as well. The area in and around Ganllwyd is particularly picturesque making it a very appealing place for a cottage holiday.

Two rivers lie nearby, the Mawddach and the Gamlan, and there are three spectacular waterfalls within the enchanting Coed y Brenin which means ‘the Forest of Kings’. This forest is covered with beautiful oak and conifer trees, and it is in fact the oldest forest in all of Wales. Covering an incredible 16,000 acres of land, there are miles and miles of marked tracks which can be used for walking and cycling, or even horse riding, and there are also plenty of areas for picnicking. The stunning twin waterfalls of Rhaeadr Mawddach and Pistyll Cain are not accessible by road but can easily be seen on a lovely walk through the forest towards the rushing sound of these beautiful falls.

Wildlife lovers will love coming to Coed y Brenin to spot some of the many species that can be seen. From the rare red squirrel to polecats, otters and deer, seeing or photographing some of these beautiful creatures is a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon in Ganllwyd.

Ganllwyd lies within the Snowdonia National Park, which is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in all of the United Kingdom and a great place to enjoy the great outdoors whilst on a self-catering break. A must-see, or even a must-climb if you love adventure, is Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in both England and Wales. Ascending to the top of this towering natural structure and seeing the sprawling and panoramic views over the surrounding areas will be a sight that you will never forget. Even if you don’t decide to climb Snowdon, seeing it for itself is just as incredible.

With a friendly population of people, Ganllwyd is home to a couple of individual shops, and some lovely cafes and pubs. It makes a great place for a rural retreat break in this part of Wales, especially if you love the great outdoors and wonderful backdrops.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Ganllwyd, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Gwynedd.
