For a remote Highland getaway, the tranquil village of Poolewe could be ideal. The small village of Poolewe in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands is set in simply breath-taking surroundings on the edge of the sweeping Loch Ewe and the trickling River Ewe. Poolewe is picturesque with mountains and the sea providing idyllic backdrops, making this an ideal place for a remote self-catering getaway.
Although tranquil and remote, there is still plenty to see and do here to make your break enjoyable. Walking and cycling can be enjoyed locally as can fishing. Fishing is best on Loch Ewe in the summer months.
Days out on a cottage holiday can be enjoyed at nearby Inverewe Garden which is a botanical garden and a National Trust for Scotland property and makes a wonderful day trip from the village due to its impressive collection of exotic and tropical plants from all over the world. If you love plants and flowers then a day trip here is a must. Poolewe is also home to a local shop and coffee place, a village market and an indoor heated swimming pool, and the Northern Lights can also sometimes be seen from the settlement, although can’t be guaranteed.
