What Gairloch, Highland offers for Self-Catering Holidays

Gairloch is located some 70 miles from Inverness in a remote part of the Scottish Highlands so may be well suited for relaxed cottage breaks where you simply want to focus on taking it easy and getting away from it all.  Or if you prefer to get out and about exploring there are plenty of choices when it comes to things to see and do.

There are a few attractions within Gairloch such as an award winning museum.  Further along the coast there is also a lighthouse where entry is currently free, a visitor centre and walking trails.  Within the village itself there are a few shops including an award winning butchers, galleries and gift shops.  In Gairloch there is a small shingle beach but near the village along the Wester Ross coast there are also a number of sandy beaches to be found where you can enjoy walks and time by the seaside.
When it comes to enjoying the outdoors Gairloch has lots to offer.  The village has a golf course with fabulous views down towards the local sandy beach.   Those who relish the idea of hiking may want to head to the nearby mountains of An Groban and Sithean Mor.  For a more sedate experience why not visit Inverewe Gardens which are a National Trust green award winning attraction?  Fishing trips and wildlife watching trips can be picked up from the village harbour.  It is even possible to go whale watching in season.

All in all people visit the area around Gairloch for wonderful fresh air, wild unspoilt landscapes, seascape views, safe sandy beaches and the wonderful wildlife which includes eagles, deer and whales.
