Church Stoke is a large mid-Wales village, located in Powys. It is an excellent base for anyone wanting to discover the hilly countryside around the Welsh/English border and the Welsh Marches. Powys Castle & Gardens, built in approximately 1200, is a fine example of a medieval castle, with fabulous artefacts from India and a 17th century terrace garden. Children will also enjoy the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, a narrow gauge railway that gets passengers close to the scenery. Look out for special events on the line. But just walking round Montgomery is very pleasant, taking in the whitewashed farmhouses and Georgian town houses.
