Rhyl is a seaside town in Denbighshire in North East Wales and makes for a wonderful holiday destination in this fantastic part of the country. Close to the beach resort of Prestatyn, Rhyl is bursting with exciting things to do on a cottage holiday, and one of this traditional Victorian resort’s draws is the magnificent stretch of sandy beach along the shoreline. On the beaches you can let your children go on fun donkey rides, or you and your loved ones can stroll along the promenade, popping into the shops that line the sea front and settling into a quaint café. From museums and historical buildings to fun days out at the beach, Rhyl has it all.

What Rhyl offers for Cottage Breaks

The Rhyl Seaquarium offers a great family day out in the town. Featuring aquatic life from all over the world including sea lions, sharks and seahorses, it is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in Rhyl when on a self-catering break.

Those who are active and sporty will enjoy cycling along the promenade as part of it is on the National Cycle Route 5. There are also plenty of parks and hills where cycling can be done, and wonderfully relaxing walking routes are dotted all around Rhyl.

If you are a lover of plants and nature then a visit to the serene Botanical Gardens is a must. Established in 1878, this tranquil oasis of flowers, trees and plant life is beautiful, and you can even take the dog! It features tennis courts and a bowling green if you want a quick game of any of these sports, and makes for a lovely day out. There is also Brickfields Pond in Rhyl which makes a fantastic and picturesque visit. This freshwater lake has sweeping grassland and forestry around its perimeter and there is a fun sculpture walking trail that can be taken in between looking at the incredible wildlife around the pond.

Rhyl Miniature Railway is a wonderful attraction which has been running in the town for over 100 years. As Britain’s oldest miniature railway line, the steam trains used today originate from the 1920s and they travel through some spectacular scenery, offering a nostalgic experience in a beautiful setting for all who hop aboard!

Being home to several sandy beaches, Rhyl does in fact have one beach that is dog-friendly – Splash Point. On this beach your canine companion can let loose on the sands at any time of year, so no one needs to be left out on a wonderful holiday to Rhyl!

When it comes to finding a place to stay, choices include coastal cottages and you may even be lucky enough to find cottages with sea-views available in this part of Wales. Wherever you choose to stay, we hope you have the best of times in and close to Rhyl.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Rhyl, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Denbighshire.
