Corwen in Denbighshire in North Wales is surrounded by pastures, trees and hills and enjoys a beautiful rural setting making it a great place for a country cottage holiday. It lies on the banks of the picturesque River Dee at the foot of the towering Berwyn Mountains and is home to a small population of three thousand people which means that the community is quite close-knit but also large enough to be a town and not a village. There is plenty to do for visitors in Corwen such as exploring the summit of the mountains at Cadair Berwyn. If you are a keen hiker then this should definitely be done as the views from the top are spectacular and the rugged terrain is simply beautiful.

About Cottage Breaks in Corwen

Options when it comes to places to stay include Welsh country cottages, rural retreat cottages and log cabins, choose whichever best suits your needs.

The charming market town of Corwen is home to plenty of pubs and cafes which have a distinct and local feel about them. Settling into one of the friendly pubs for the evening whilst enjoying a cottage holiday is a great way to relax in this lovely Welsh settlement and perhaps get to know some of the locals. The town is also home to plenty of shops and convenience stores, including a fancy dress shop for those wishing to dress up for the night!

Those who love walking will adore the Corwen Walking Festival which takes place every year at the end of August and early September, and offers anything from historical walks through the town itself to rambles in the nearby backdrops of the Clwydian and Dee Valley. The Pen-y-Pigyn loop walk is a great one that starts in the town centre, goes past Corwen Church and through oak woodlands and the spectacular view at Pen-y-Pigyn. There are many other walks that can be taken in Corwen and each takes in breath-taking scenery.

Corwen’s town church, St. Mael and St. Sulien, is worth visiting whilst on a self-catering break as it has a rich history, having been founded in the 6th century by missionaries. The present building dates from the Norman era and there are a number of interesting features that can be seen, such as graves with kneeling stones in the churchyard and a Celtic stone cross.

Corwen is simply wonderful if you want to experience life in a small Welsh town, and there are so many opportunities to go walking and cycling through the incredible scenery. It is also not too far from Snowdonia National Park if you want to see Mount Snowdon or if you fancy a challenge trekking to its peak. Bala in the National Park with its stunning lake is just 11 miles away. Corwen itself though has plenty to recommend it and is a great place for a relaxing cottage break in spectacular scenery.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Corwen, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Denbighshire.
