The small village of Tal-y-Bont in the Conwy Valley of North Wales lies in between the larger settlements of Conwy and Llanrwst. Nestled by hills, this village is very picturesque with the Afon Dulyn stream trickling through the centre. Tal-y-Bont is set in an excellent location from which to explore much of this part of Wales’ incredible countryside and scenery and has lots to recommend it for those who like hiking, walking and cycling.  When it comes to finding a base from which to discover some of the best of Conwy, enjoy browsing through the available choice of rural country cottages on Country Cottages Online.

What Tal-y-bont offers for Cottage Breaks

The picturesque lake of Llyn Eigiau is close by to Tal-y-Bont which lies at the bottom of the Carneddau range of mountains. There are many walks that can be taken here from the village and to the surrounding mountains in Snowdonia National Park, and you are likely to walk past other quaint villages such as Llanbedr-y-Cennin and charming little local pubs. The peaks of the mountains of Foel Fras and Drum can be accessed through walking paths, as well as Carnedd Llewelyn which is the highest in the Carneddau range and the second highest summit in all of Wales after Mount Snowdon. Hiking around these spectacular peaks from Tal-y-Bont is a great way to spend a day soaking up the wonderful scenery of this part of Wales on a cottage holiday.

Tal-y-Bont has several shops and amenities in its centre, including a cosy and friendly pub called Y Bedol which translates into English as the Horseshoe. This pub serves delicious and traditional dishes as well as thirst-quenching ales, and with a lovely beer garden with sweeping views across Conwy Valley, it makes an excellent place in which to have a meal or to spend a relaxing evening whilst enjoying a cottage break.

The memorial hall in the village is home to tennis courts, a snooker table and a games area, and every summer it hosts the Village Gala. With talent competitions, fireworks displays, tug of war games, and many exciting stalls and refreshments, the Village Gala is a fantastic way to feel like a local and enjoy these fun activities with the villagers of Tal-y-Bont on a lovely summer’s day in July.

Tal-y-Bont may be small but it is surrounded by some of the most breath-taking scenery in all of Wales. If you love mountainous backdrops and serene village life then Tal-y-Bont will certainly appeal to you for a rural retreat break and hiking to the top of either Snowdon or Carnedd Llewelyn might be a challenge but the views you will get will surely blow you away.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Tal-y-bont, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Conwy.
