What Rhos-on-Sea offers for Cottage Breaks

If you enjoy getting out and exploring the local area on a cottage holiday you should find plenty of interest in and close to Rhos-on-Sea. Alternatively if you prefer just relax and take it easy at your home from home.

One recommended place to visit is Bryn Euryn, a mountain that lies above Rhos-on-Sea and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Interestingly, a small fort used to sit at the peak of the hill and was called the Bear’s Den, the remains of this can be seen by those who make the hike up to the summit. The ruins of the 15th century reconstruction of an old manor house called Llys Euryn can also be seen at Bryn Euryn and both fascinating and intriguing. This place is definitely worth the visit if you are taking a cottage break in Rhos-on-Sea and have an interest in historical building and remains.

Britain’s first permanent puppet theatre was built in Rhos-on-Sea and opened in 1958, and is a fantastic place to take the children to as they will absolutely love it. The Harlequin Puppet Theatre is small with only seats for 100, but that means there is room for everyone to see the string wooden puppets that feature during the brilliant shows. With around 1000 of these marionettes that can be seen during performances in the school holidays, there are countless productions that are put on, including the classic Punch and Judy. The founders of the theatre also designed puppets for BBC kid’s shows, several of which can be seen on display at the nearby Penrhyn Castle.

Another great place to visit is Penrhyn Castle, half an hour’s drive from Rhos-on-Sea. This National Trust Property is an enchanting 19th century castle which lies between the Menai Strait and Snowdonia National Park. With wonderful artefacts, paintings and furniture on display, Penrhyn Castle is also home to a Victorian walled garden, a model railway museum and a dolls museum. Entrance is free for National Trust members.

Rhos-on-Sea is charming with lovely views over the ocean and also benefits by being close to the bigger seaside resort of Llandudno. With easy access to Snowdonia, this town is in a great location for an action-packed and fun packed cottage holiday in North Wales.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Rhos-on-Sea, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Conwy.
