Inveraray is a picturesque coastal town in Argyll and Bute located by the shores of Loch Fyne in Scotland.  With white washed buildings, a pretty harbour, waterside and mountain views, it is a very scenic town for a self-catering cottage break.  The town is also reasonably well located for visiting Argyll Forest Park and the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.  Garelochhead in the heart of the Argyll Forest Park is just 31 miles away and Crianlarich in the north of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs Park is around 32 miles from Inveraray.  Inveraray with its coastal location and easy access to beautiful countryside has lots to offer for both coastal and country holidays.

About Inveraray for Cottage Holidays

For exploring the great outdoors and enjoying country life Inveraray has lots to offer.  Nearby walks include forest trails as well as mountain paths.  Local walks include the Beinn Bhuidhe Walk through Glen Fyne, the Inveraray Forest Walk through the forest near the town and the 39 Steps Walk through the forest above Ardrishaig from which you can enjoy wonderful views of Loch Fyne below.  Inveraray also has its own golf club.  Being in an area by the sea and with plenty of lochs nearby, there are plentiful opportunities for fishing near Inveraray.  At Ardbrecknish you can book to go fishing on the fresh water loch or if you prefer simply hire a rowing boat for a relaxed boating trip.  Fishing and fishing lessons can also be booked at Inverawe Country Park where there are a total of four lochs.

Inveraray itself has a good number of attractions.  Inveraray Castle with its rich history and beautiful gardens can be found on the outskirts of town.  There is also a fascinating maritime museum in the town.  As a reasonably small town for most, Inveraray can easily be explored on foot with a local map to help you or if you prefer you may want to find guided tours of the town which are available locally.

Other attractions near Inveraray include Cruachan which is a visitor attraction deep within the mountain of Ben Cruachan.  At this green award winning attraction you can visit the visitor centre, arrange a guided tour and get more information on the power station.  Also nearby is Auchindrain which demonstrates how farming communities traditionally lived.  If you simply adore greenery then we recommend heading for Ardkinglas House and Gardens, these woodland gardens are open all year round and entrance for children is free.  The National Trust’s beautiful Crarae Gardens are also worth a visit.  Whether you decide to rent a country cottage, a log cabin or a rural retreat, enjoy browsing through the available choices of self-catering accommodation in and near Inveraray.

Book a Inveraray cottage and look forward to discovering some of the best of Argyll and Bute on holiday.
