Pet friendly self-catering near York for holidays and weekend breaks, rent a self catering cottage, apartment or pine lodge in a rural area within driving distance of York. Leave your dog at the cottage if allowed to enjoy a day in the city. Dogs are not permitted in museums and most visitor attractions so that all that would be possible if your dog accompanies you is sightseeing from the street. This said, a walking tour of York is still enjoyable and there are dog friendly pubs (try the Minster Inn) where you can buy lunch.

A stay outside the city of York would also be less expensive than in the city itself. A car is inevitably required. This does give you the option of seeing more of Yorkshire and making the most of its wide open spaces.
