Rosscarbery is a town on the southern coast of Ireland in County Cork, set by a beautiful bay of the same name. The town has a rich history which dates back to the Bronze Age and this is known due to a number of stone circles that can be found in the area. Peaceful and unspoilt, Rosscarbery is a unique place in Ireland for a coastal self-catering holiday.

About Rosscarbery for Cottage Holidays

The population of Rosscarbery is under 1,000 but during the warmer summer months, visitors and tourists to the town makes the amount of people seem a lot larger. The gorgeous Rosscarbery Bay is wonderful for relaxing in, soaking up the stunning atmosphere, and there are plenty of wonderful walks that can be taken along the impressive coastline on a cottage break. Bicycles can also be hired and you can even hop on a horse for a relaxing trek through the backdrops of the town.

One of the Rosscarbery’s top attractions is its golden sandy and pretty beaches, including the Owenahincha and Warren beaches. Only about a mile from the centre of the village, there is also the Rosscarbery Pitch and Putt Club at Warren Beach, so you and your family can spend a fun and packed day out by the stunning southern Irish coast.

If you fancy eating out whilst on your self-catering break, there are lots of restaurants in which to have a tasty bite to eat, including the wonderful Pilgrim’s Rest in the South Square of the town. With an open log fire for the colder months and lovely outdoor seating for summer, Pilgrim’s Rest serves delicious traditional food on large wooden tables with books on shelves on the walls providing an enchanting atmosphere, and comes highly recommended for its atmosphere.

Bird lovers will adore spotting the different kinds which can be found in Rosscarbery, including little egret, kingfisher, red shank, mute swan and lots of different types of duck which can be seen by the lagoon in the village. Even dolphins and humpback whales can be seen on boat trips, for those with a general interest in wildlife, and budding photographers will adore the many photo opportunities which will come your way on a cottage holiday in Rosscarbery.
