Epsom is a town towards the northern part of Surrey, and is most famous for the racecourse named after the settlement which holds the Epsom Derby annually. This worldwide-known derby brings hordes of visitors to Epsom every year during the early summer months to the Epsom Downs Racecourse, which dates all the way back to 1661 and features a number of classic horse races. Its proximity to London makes the racecourse very easy to visit if you are in the capital city, yet there are numerous other things to see during other times of the year when the Derby is not on. Epsom is a great place to stay if you would like to have a day or two at the races and explore London and the South.

What Epsom offers for Cottage Breaks

Epsom town centre is a lovely area featuring an array of individual boutiques and typical high street stores. Part of the area is pedestrianized which makes it a lot easier for shoppers to get about, and there is a small shopping mall, the Ashley Centre, several cafes and restaurants and a large Odeon cinema for those who want to make a day out of a trip to Epsom.

Theatre lovers will be pleased to know that the Epsom Playhouse opened in the area in 1984 and regularly puts on a range of concerts, plays, musicals and stand-up shows for families and adults alike.
Epsom is based in the valley of Epsom Downs which is an area of chalk down land. Although most of this stunning area of natural beauty is taken up by the popular racecourse, lovers of nature will be pleased to know that part of the land is used for those who wish to take strolls in the beautiful scenery, as well as those keen on cycling through the area.

Panoramic views of nearby London can be had from the Downs, as the capital is not very far away. These views are a must-see for anyone who has a keen eye for photography as you will capture some spectacular images, or even for artists who wish to paint or draw landscapes of the city in a quiet and scenic space.
Epsom is famed for its world-renowned racecourse, but there are plenty of other things to see and do if you plan on visiting this charming town.
