Description: About The Gun EmplacementThe Gun Emplacement is a fantastic 3 bedroom holiday cottage perched high on a cliff top along the National Trust’s protected White Cliffs. The nearest house to France, the Gun Emplacement has an absolutely stunning setting and fabulous sea views.
The house was constructed by the Army in 1910, Sir Peter Ustinov was billeted there during the Second War and he bought the house from the Ministry of Defence in 1946. The current owner purchased the house in 1977 and transformed it in to a wonderful seaside holiday home.
This cottage offers comfortable, although not luxurious accommodation and benefits from a unique location with fabulous uninterrupted views across the Channel to Calais. There are gardens to the back and front and the location offers total peace in glorious unspoiled countryside. The wonderful view on the cliffs is shown above.
The cottage itself can be seen by clicking on "Interior Photos". It is not suitable for young children due to the proximity of the cliff edge, but fine for older people (two small steps) and for well-behaved pets. Due to the layout of the property it is not really suited to wheel chairs. NO SMOKERS.
There are 3 double bedrooms. A pleasant sitting-room (with an open fireplace) looking out to sea, with sliding double-glazed windows on 3 sides: a tiny modern kitchen fitted with Ikea cupboards, fridge-freezer, oven, dishwasher, microwave, a separate WC, new bathroom with basin, bath and tiled walk-in shower with excellent pressure. There is even an airing cupboard to keep linen warm. Towels are NOT provided except for Overseas visitors on request.
The shingle beach is very near (7 mins. walk) and there are many other delightful walks - to Dover over the cliff tops, to Kingsdown and Sandwich. Canterbury, Folkestone, Leeds Castle, Sissinghurst Gardens, Rye, Walmer, Chilham and of course France, are all a short drive away.
The road to the cottage from the village is pretty poor so drivers of precious cars beware!
