Go north to book a country cottage amongst some of the best, most rugged English scenery with lakes and rivers. The highest English mountains or hills are in the Lake District in north west England. There are plenty of other rural expanses that people visit to enjoy various outdoor activities. It's the hills, large wooded areas and natural contrasts that create a stunning vista. The majority of people would prefer to holiday in a beautiful location and people sometimes do not realise how stunning the northern English national parks and coastlines are until they visit for the first time.

This collection of holiday cottages in the north of England offers holidaymakers the chance to stay for a week or two and encounter the landscapes, flora and fauna of the north. Much of the countryside is good walking country. There are superb watersports on the lakes in Cumbria and Northumberland and fishing in numerous places.

All of the self-catering accommodation on this page would be excellent for a reliable and comfortable holiday. Book pet-friendly cottages when taking dogs on holiday. We would also ask that holidaymakers with assisted dogs opt for dog friendly cottages out of courtesy to people with asthma. Northern England welcomes visitors, so do go for a week or mid-week break.
