Self-catering cottage breaks in the Wirral
The Wirral - Things To Do During your Self-catering Break
Rent a rural cottage, holiday lodge or apartment in the Wirral and enjoy a happy holiday with possible trips to Liverpool or Manchester.
The Wirral, located in North West England, has the perfect mix of town and country life. The small peninsula offers both stunning county views and easy access to towns and villages, meaning that visiting the Wirral, you really get the best of both worlds. For such a small peninsula, there’s an awful lot to do and I can guarantee you won’t be bored if you visit.
If you like the outdoors, fresh air and beautiful scenery, Wirral offers this for you. One extremely well loved and popular spot is West Kirby, a beach and marine lake popular with dog walkers and families. If the tide is low enough, you are able to walk around the marine lake, and if the tide is out, you could spend the day walking over the beach to Hilbre Island, the perfect spot for any picnic.
If this isn't the thing for you and you fancy some more to do, New Brighton has recently been renovated. Situated against the River Mersey, New Brighton offers a fort, cinema, restaurants, cafes, arcades and lazer quest. Whether you’ve got children or want to let your inner child out, New Brighton will provide fun for all the family and is a brilliant spot for walking dogs too! Wirral also boasts its own botanical gardens - Ness Gardens. These are beautiful, well kept gardens that take all day to explore, there’s even fields for picnics if the weather is good. The sense of exploration in these gardens is sure to keep the children entertained, with the gardens often offering a treasure hunt or trail, in order to keep them busy. Whether you’re a dedicated botanist or just fancy a fun day out, you will find it at Ness Gardens.
If you prefer something indoors however, there are also many options for these activities too. Brimstage offers a collection of shops, many of which specialize in crafts meaning it is the perfect place to buy wool, fabric and tapestry kits. Sometimes, there are exhibits of people’s work or there may be a craft group that you could join in with for the day. If you prefer to shop, Birkenhead offers a wide variety of shops, ranging from clothes to music, and is conveniently and easily accessed. However, if the range of shops isn't big enough for you here, the Wirral provides easy access to both Cheshire Oaks - an outlet village with hundreds of outlet stores and the big city of Liverpool offering the shopping centre Liverpool One, along with a wide range of cultural activities. Between all of these shopping facilities, you’ll be guaranteed to find exactly what you’re looking for.
If you are looking for something completely different and more child focused, you can visit Spaceport. This is situated at Seacombe Ferry Terminal and offers a play area, planetarium and themed exhibits that change regularly. They also have an old U Boat and exhibition, creating the perfect educational day for the whole family.
While Wirral may seem small at first, it really isn't. You’ll be sure to find things to do to please everyone, with these just being a few of the options. Whether it is scenery, child-friendly activities or shopping that you’re looking for, the Wirral will provide you with all these and more!
