The village of Mountcharles can be found close to the North Atlantic coast in the northern part of the Republic of Ireland, in County Donegal. The settlement is small yet charming, and makes for a wonderful country cottage holiday destination for those looking to get away from the busy hurried life of cities, and rent a self-catering cottage in an area with incredible natural scenery.

Advice on Cottage Holidays in Mountcharles

Mountcharles has a couple of shops which have all the products you would need when spending time in a quaint little Irish village, and there are also three pubs with friendly locals, thirst-quenching drinks and tasty food. One of these pubs, the Village Tavern, should definitely be visited when in Mountcharles. Located on the Main Street of the village, this pub has previously been voted restaurant and pub of the year in both 2003 and 2004, and after trying the delicious food served here, you will understand why.

As Mountcharles is located by the stunning Atlantic coastline, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy water sport activities on your cottage holiday, from surfing to sailing. For those who like to just enjoy the scenery, you can sit back and relax on the beach while taking in the spectacular views, or go for a relaxing dip in the ocean. Those who like peaceful strolls will be pleased to know that this spot is perfect for walking by the shoreline and soaking up the atmosphere, and the views are so incredible that you will be stopping every couple of minutes to take in your incredible surroundings!
There is also a small pier leading out to the sea which is very well known within the village, and the locals here compete in a swim and raft race every New Year, which brings the community together in a really fun way. If you happen to be in Mountcharles during the start of the year then we recommend that you pop down.

County Donegal is packed full of exciting events, museums and places of natural beauty and has plenty to offer for relaxing or action packed self-catering holidays. Using Mountcharles as a base to explore this gorgeous part of Ireland is a great way to truly appreciate the area while staying in a friendly village with its own character and feeling, and there is a lot to do here even if you decide to not leave the village on your trip.  Whether you are interested in pet-friendly cottages, family cottages or romantic retreats for two, we hope you find ideal self-catering accommodation to meet your needs and that you have best of times in this part of Ireland.

Book a Mountcharles cottage and look forward to discovering some of the best of Donegal on holiday.
