Why Book a Self-Catering Break in Herefordshire?

Black and White Village Trail

Covering some forty miles is the 'Black and White Village Trail' that takes visitors by road through a string of pretty villages with historic black and white timber-framed houses including Eardisley, Lyonshall, Pembridge, Eardisland and more.  These black and white buildings are typical of the area.  Each village offers a place to stop and look around.  There are tea shops and friendly inns aplenty, so they're ideal for a pub crawl or tea shop crawl - depending on your personal preference. And the scenery en-route in this fruit and hop growing region is rural and a joy to discover.

Charming Historic Herefordshire Market Towns

Leominster, with beautiful historic black and white buildings, is a lovely rural town, offering a good choice of independent shops, cafes, good pubs and restaurants.

Ross-on-Wye, a pretty market town perched on a sandstone cliff, high above a loop of the magnificent river Wye is a must to visit. There are great river walks to discover near the town, and Goodrich Castle is not too far away.  Also not to be missed, not too far away is the famous beauty spot of Symonds Yat, the Forest of Dean, Ledbury and the Malverns.

The Historical City of Hereford

With an impressive setting by the River Wye, the city of Hereford with its mighty Norman Cathedral (where visitors can scan the 'Mappa Mundi'; a 13th century cartographer's interpretation of the world) and Black and White House museum, as well as shops, eateries and cafes, has plenty to offer.

The Wye Valley

The Wye Valley is one of England’s treasured National Landscapes (formerly an AONB) and with good reason, with stunning river valleys, farmlands and lush countryside, this is a beautiful area to discover on holiday.  Walk the Wye Valley Walk, a long distance walk which covers some 136 miles of stunning riverside and hillside scenery, or choose to do just a few sections.

Some of the best beauty spots in the Wye Valley include Symonds’ Yat with its wonderful woodland walks and amazing views of the river down below, and also the Devil’s Pulpit which looks out to Tintern Abbey.
