Situated by a hillside in the Durham countryside is St. Johns Chapel, a small village in an area known as Weardale. For a tranquil country cottage holiday, St. Johns Chapel could be the perfect destination. This area is a beautiful playground for active families and hikers. Weardale Town Hall is located in St. John’s Chapel and visitors here can enjoy a variety of special events put on by the Weardale Railway heritage line. These include a Polar Express at Christmas, Afternoon Tea trains, Wild West trains, dining trains and railway festivals during the summer. It may be a village, but you can still go to the cinema. Twice each month, the Upper Weardale Cinema Club sets up in the Town Hall, showing a choice of two films. If you enjoy a traditional county show, you’ll appreciate Weardale Agricultural Show, held annually in St. Johns Chapel. In addition to the animals on display, the 2013 show included a demonstration on stone walling, a tug of war, a highland dance team and archery.
Book a St Johns Chapel cottage and look forward to discovering some of the best of County Durham on holiday.
