Located in the Daventry district of Northamptonshire is the quaint village of Great Brighton. Home to a village pub, the Althorp Coaching Inn, a post office and a parish church of St Mary the Virgin and St John, it is a lovely and quiet place in which to reside on a self-catering holiday in this part of England.
Great Brington is just outside the village of Althorp which is home to the country estate of the Spencer family, where Princess Diana is buried. Visiting this Grade I listed building and the gardens and grounds of Althorp is a fantastic thing to do when staying in Great Brington, as you can pay your respects to the People’s Princess, visit the beautiful ornamental lake and path lined with oak trees leading to Diana’s grave, and explore the 19 rooms of the house that are open to the public. It is a fascinating way of paying a tribute to Princess Diana and soaking up the 500 year history of the Spencer family, and there is also a gift shop which is lovely to purchase a souvenir for friends back at home.
If you enjoy walking then you may have come to the right place as the Macmillan Way footpath passes through the centre of Great Brington. This long distance footpath is great to walk along for if you like to keep fit and active when on a break, and you can unwind and relax back in your cottage in front of the television in your lounge in the evenings.
Great Brington is a charming settlement, wonderful for a self-catering holiday with loved ones in Northamptonshire.
