Daventry is a lovely market town towards the west of the county of Northamptonshire in England, and is a bustling and vibrant place in which to rent self-catering accommodation for a fun break where you and your loved ones will have lots to do. The town is set in gorgeous surroundings, with sweeping hills on one side and the watershed of the River Leam and the River Lene flowing nearby. The rivers do not actually flow in Daventry, however there are two reservoirs nearby – the Daventry and Drayton.
The historic market centre is wonderful to explore, and includes quite a lot of listed buildings such as Moot Hall, a Grade II listed structure by the market square that dates from 1769. This hall was once a women’s prison and a museum, as well as having several other uses over the years. The high street is packed full of charming pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops to explore, and a street market is held here every single Tuesday and Friday. One Saturday a month, a farmers’ market is also arranged here, where visitors can purchase some fantastic local produce, which is great for if you are renting a cottage and plan to cook your own meals in your fully-equipped kitchen.
If you, your friends and your family enjoy spending some time in the great outdoors, you should definitely visit Daventry Country Park when staying in the town. This Local Nature Reserve covers an incredible 140 acres and centres of the Daventry Reservoir, which is home to nearly 200 species of bird. With circular walking paths and delightful picnic areas, it makes a great day out from the centre of Daventry.
There are plenty of cottages available to rent in Daventry for a brilliant self-catering holiday, and with a lively atmosphere, a couple of golf and sports clubs and lots of shops and pubs, it is a nice place in which to spend some time for a break in Northamptonshire.
