The town of Corby is situated in the English county of Northamptonshire and was once a rural village that became an industrial town with its steelworks. Suffering in the collapse of the steel industry in the 1980s, Corby is now the fastest growing place by population in England, and there is a lot in and around this settlement to see and do when visiting with friends and family. Renting a self-catering cottage is the best way to see Corby as you can have that special homely feeling but in an entirely new setting, eating your favourite meals and watching your favourite TV shows, and there are plenty to reside in in this interesting town.
Corby is known as ‘Little Scotland’ as many of its residents originate from there as they migrated for the steelworks. The Scottish influence can be seen in the many Scottish sporting clubs in Corby, the supermarkets that stock Scottish foods and the two Church of Scotland churches in the town – the only place in England with more than one besides London.
There is a lot to do in Corby, including taking a visit to the fairly new Corby Cube which is home to two theatres, a public library and a registrar office. Visiting the Corby Cube makes a great evening out with loved ones, especially if you wish to catch a live theatre, dance, comedy or music performance. Films are also screened in the theatre twice a week. With a swimming pool, lots of bars, pubs and restaurants and a new shopping centre, Willow Place, home to chain stores and individual shops, Corby is great for a varied holiday in Northamptonshire, and is only 9 miles from Kettering for if you wish to explore a different part of the county on your self-catering break.
