Information about Melton Mowbray

Melton Mowbray is an attractive market town in Leicestershire in which to enjoy a country cottage stay.  Surrounded by beautiful rural farmlands, Melton Mowbray has a strong association with country life and the production of fine foods.  Melton Mowbray’s cheese is famous up and down the country for its quality and taste, as are the pork pies.  The town has a number of interesting historical buildings including a church with an impressive 100 foot tower.  The town has its own Tourist Information Centre, a visit to which is recommended for getting the best out of a cottage holiday in the town.  The town has its own country park, which covers a total of 140 acres of parklands and includes a lake, football pitches and play areas for children.  The country park is just 10 minute walk from the town centre and guided walks can be arranged with the ranger by arrangement.

Things to see and do on a Self-Catering Cottage Holiday in Melton Mowbray

For wonderful views over the surrounding hills, valleys and fields, why not visit Burrough Hill Country Park and climb to the top of the hill where there is a well preserved iron age hill fort.  There are also nature trails, woodlands and great opportunities to spot birdlife and other wildlife such as hares and deer.   For family fun then why not visit Twinlakes Theme Park near the town.  There are a number of rides for thrill-seekers at this park as well as opportunities for children to meet typical farmyard animals at Red Rooster Zoo Farm.  There is also a falconry centre.

In terms of nearby attractions, there is plenty to see and do near Melton Mowbray.  The charming market town of Stamford is just 21 miles away with its many tea shops, pub and parklands.  Rutland Water is an easy 13 mile drive away from Stamford and is known for its nature reserve, wildlife, cycling and walking trails.
