Other places to visit not too far away include Rutland Water with its excellent facilities for walking, cycling and watersports.  When it comes to historical cities and towns why not visit Lincoln or Stamford?  It is even possible to visit the Peak District National Park from Waltham on the Wolds which is around an hour and a half away by car.
