Wast Water is the nearest large lake to Scafell Pike. Roads travel around the perimeter of the lake and extend out to Wasdale Head. This is rough rocky terrain with few habitations, so it may be a case of finding somewhere to stay as near as possible.

Woodend Cottage is set in a quiet remote location quite high on Birker Fell (approximately 950') and approached from the fell along a single track road through a gate. It has views across the fell towards Scafell Pike, (Englands's highest mountain), and is a ten minute walk from one of the smaller of the lakes, Devoke Water, which never the less is nearly a mile long!
At Woodend Cottage you not only have incredible views towards Scafell Pike from most of the rooms, but within a five minute walk you have stunning views over Devoke Water and within twenty minutes walking you can be at the top of Devoke Seat where, on a clear day, you have a 360 degree panoramic view that includes Devoke Water, the Langdales, the coast and the Isle of Man.
It's potentially a holiday cottage that can accommodate six people in its three bedrooms. Guests are welcome to bring up to dogs with them. The fells are wonderful for walking with a dog or two in tow.
People and their dogs are a common sight in the streets of Lake District towns and villages. The Cumbrian hills simply attract people with dogs like a magnet. There are dogs welcome signs outside cafes, shops and pubs along with a bowl of fresh water. Little wonder that pet owners head for the Lakes and book country cottages to stay in.
