Enter our competition, don't miss your chance to win a week's self catering break in a 5 bedroom holiday home in southern Poland (accommodation only) in a peaceful location on the edge of the Gorce Hills in a spa town. The countryside is simply beautiful and ideal for walking groups hiking through the hills or in one of four national parks within an hour's drive. Walks from the front door.

 

Cracow old squareFabulous places to visit within an hour's drive include:

  • The old medieval city of Cracow with the 2nd largest town square in Europe. This is where the annual Christmas Market is held in December - very atmospheric. Visit the Castle, cathedral, enjoy stately horse drawn carriage rides, indulge in a selection of the 500 restaurants in Cracow.

 

  • A guided tour of the salt mines with extensive tunnels, underground cathedral and amazing works of art including chandeliers made entirely of rock salt by miners.

 

  • The ski and hiking centre of Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains with its unique Highland culture.

 

  • Rafting on the River Dunajec through a gorge.

 

  • Lake Czorsztyn with 2 castles and dam, sailing and canoeing.

 

  • Geo-thermal baths where people rub themselves down with snow before returning into the pool to warm up again.

 

  • Two state of the art aquaparks with flumes, jacuzzi and sauna

Cracow also has a Jewish area. A Jewish Klezmer Festival of Music is held at the end of June every year. Visit Schindler's Factory. Auschwitz is south west of Cracow.

This is an excellent area for inexpensive skiing during the winter. Zakopane offers numerous ski slopes, there are at least 3 in Rabka-Zdroj, and your money goes a long way. Ski hire of boots, skis and bindings is 10 zloty per hour, which is about £2. A whole day’s hire is under £10. Visit frozen lakes and rivers. Go ice skating locally in an outdoor skating rink until the end of February.

This self-catering break provides the opportunity to enjoy the southern part of the big beautiful country and to discover some of its culture and traditions.

 

The winner of the competition will receive free rental of this holiday home in Poland. The holiday must be taken between the 15th September and 30th May 2013 during available periods when the house is not already booked. Please note that travel is not included and all arrangements concerning travel are the responsibility of the winner. Both Easyjet and Ryanair fly to Cracow.
