Description: About The Bothy
The Bothy is a single storey 2 bedroom semi-detached stone-built traditional cottage just outside the village of Staffin in the northeast of the Isle of Skye. It is located in a courtyard setting along with another identical two bedroom cottage and a detached stone cottage. There are picnic tables in the courtyard and plenty of room for parking cars. This group of holiday cottages overlooks the water. The cottage has been very nicely kitted out for a self-catering holiday; there is a wood burning stove that sits snugly against one wall of the living room come dining room. Comfortable sofas are arranged around the fire and a dining table with four chairs is placed in the corner. A television with Freeview stands on a cupboard in another corner of the room. Seascapes adorn the walls. This property is about a mile from an attractive beach but close to the sea. A practical modern oak-style kitchen contains all essentials for self-catering, including a built in oven and hob, there’s a microwave, bread bin, the usual cooker hood with an extractor fan, kettle and toaster, a washing machine so you can keep up with your laundry whilst exploring the island. An American fridge freezer is there to store your holiday food and also offers an ice maker for a nice chilled glass of whiskey in the evening.
Of the two bedrooms, one bedroom is a king size and has plenty of storage in the form of a pine wardrobe, bedside cabinets and a dressing table. The second bedroom is a twin with single beds separated by a bedside table and again there is a wardrobe for storage and a shelf with a mirror on it standing above a radiator. Both bedrooms share a shower room with a walk in shower cubicle, wash basin and WC.
The Isle of Skye is very well known for its coastal splendour and rocky scenery; there are plenty of cliffs, hills and heights to climb from which to observe the island in all its glory. Skye is famous for its wildlife especially sea birds of which there are myriads. The small town of Staffin overlooks the coast and has a beach of grainy grey sand and groups of white-washed cottages dotted about. Pleasure craft now bob about on the waters replacing the fishing boats of old. It all looks very picturesque and offers many opportunities for sailing, fishing and enjoying seafood. The Isle of Skye will suit a lot of people who like remote places and tranquillity.
The wood burner in the cottage is very nice to have on holiday - there’s nothing better than sitting around a glowing fire in the evening and discussing the day’s adventures over a whisky or two. In the village of Staffin you will find the Old Inn which serves delicious local produce and speciality ales - it’s always a pleasure to taste something from the local area. Buy fresh seafood from the Skye Seafood Shop to cook back at your holiday home. A village store will keep you stocked up with everyday items such as bread milk and anything else that might take your fancy. Staffin is certainly a getaway-from-it-all destination, the cottage does not have Wi-Fi so you will have to be the kind of person who enjoys the natural countryside, the sea, seals and other wildlife, the scenery and days out. The cottage is-pet friendly so your dog can come with you and explore the hills, the beaches and the little villages.
A few facts about the property: the main heating is electric central heating and the wood burning stove is an extra. A starter pack of logs is included, more can be purchased as you go along if needed. The property is ready to move into with all bed linen and towels supplied. Please note that the courtyard and garden area are not fully enclosed so you will need to take special care of your dog.
