The village has a couple of convenience stores to stock up on for food if you are planning on renting a cottage and there are also a number of pubs to settle into for the night!

Foulksmills is about a twenty five minute drive from the bustling town of Wexford so easily accessible if you fancy a more bustling atmosphere whilst on your cottage holiday in serene Foulksmills. The town of Wexford has lots of amenities to offer and is great for the whole family, due to its many beaches. One of the beaches, the Curracloe, was even used in the opening scenes for the 1997 movie Saving Private Ryan starring Hollywood legend Tom Hanks.

There are also plenty of places of natural beauty to see in the local area including the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve which is a great place for avid wildlife watchers. This reserve is just outside of the town and is a mudflat site where thousands of birds such as geese, swans and ducks stop off on their migration, and with a fantastic and educational visitor centre with lots of information, displays and exhibitions, as well as a brilliant visual video show, it is wonderful to take kids to for a day trip.

Another recommended place to visit in Wexford  whilst taking a cottage break near the town is the Irish National Heritage Park which is brilliant if you love to soak up the history of the place you are visiting, as it goes back to nearly 10,000 years of the history of Ireland. The centre is interactive and visitors can wander through Norman forts and Viking Houses to discover what life used to be like for the Irish thousands of years ago.

Although there are not too many amenities in Foulksmills, it has its own sense of character and is close enough to the larger towns and villages of County Wexford so that you can enjoy a great balance of the tranquil and the bustling. You can enjoy spending time nestled in the countryside whilst having the beautiful coastline with plenty of good walks easily accessible nearby.
