Book a cottage for a self-catering holiday in Cruden Bay

Cruden Bay is a charming north east Aberdeenshire coastal village to spend a few happy days in over the summer. This former fishing village has many assets that make it a fabulous Scottish holiday destination. There is a stone-built harbour, a wonderful bay of sandy beach and a small stream that Harbour Street edges as it flows into the centre of the village. Backing the beach are sand dunes overgrown with marram grass. The dunes merge into the manicured greens of Cruden Bay Golf Course. At either end of the villages are housing estates, joined by the main road where the oldest, original houses stand. The nearest self-catering cottages to Cruden Bay are shown.

There is a handful of essential shops, a couple of hotels and pubs along the High Street. Buses travel through Cruden Bay on the journey between Peterhead and Aberdeen. The village is a lovely place to stay, especially during the May to September period when the weather is at its best.

The different types of holiday accommodation in Cruden Bay

Cruden Bay self-catering holiday accommodationMany of the older buildings in Cruden Bay and north east Scotland are built of granite. Rock solid, these substantial villas have high ceilings and plenty of built-in features to give them character. Almost all have an open fire which may nowadays enclose a woodburner.

The newer houses are built of breeze blocks and pebble dashed – something that planning in this part of Scotland likes to encourage. There are also wooden chalets to rent beside Cruden Bay Golf Course. These belong to the members but are occasionally rented out.

All cottages and apartments that we advertise are of a good satisfactory quality. There is the full range from budget priced up to grandiose luxury.

We can recommend Cruden Bay as a lovely place to stay. The village is very well known in Aberdeenshire because of the golfing opportunities, the very good beach and the good walks around it.

Dog-friendly cottage holidays in Cruden Bay

Cruden Bay is excellent if you want to bring your dog on holiday with you. There are numerous places to walk with your dog, up to Slains Castle, Bullers of Buchan, along the beach and other coastal areas nearby. Dog walkers have to walk their dogs every morning and you could vary the walk by exploring the harbour one day, climb the hill from the harbour to go across the cliffs, walk along the valley that leads from the car park to Slains Castle, another day walks across the sands on the beach that stretch all around the bay.
