The village of Irchester is located in Northamptonshire and is a lovely place for a self-catering break in this great county where you can explore the surrounding areas and soak up the rural delights that can be found here. As well as a range of cottages that are available to rent for you and your family, Irchester is home to lots of amenities such as a library, a couple of shops including a supermarket, some places to buy tasty hot food and two cosy and welcoming pubs. One of the main draws to Irchester, however, is its country park.
Irchester Country Park is home to beautiful grassy meadows, walking and cycling trails, a play area for the kids as well as a high ropes adventure trail. There is also the Quarryman’s Rest Café serving light refreshments, designated picnic and BBQ areas and deer, squirrels and hedgehogs roaming the grounds. Also housed within the park is the Ironstone Narrow Gauge Railway Museum which takes a look back at the quarrying past of Irchester, with working steam and diesel locomotives with demonstrations held one Sunday a month. The museum is free to enter but is only open on Sundays.
Another wonderful place to take the whole family to when staying in Irchester is Stanwick Lakes which is just 6 miles from the village. These beautiful lakes are packed full of fun things to do for adults and children alike, with horse riding routes, walking trails, places to hire boats on the tranquil waters, assault courses and a fantastic outdoor theatre. Taking your loved ones along to these beautiful lakes in the Nene Valley is a wonderful way of spending the day when in Northamptonshire.
