The market town of Higham Ferrers is located in the stunning Nene Valley of Northamptonshire and is a lovely and historical place in which to rent self-catering accommodation for a break with you and your loved ones. With plenty of historical buildings to see including the quaint Higham Ferrers cottage, a delightful thatched cottage in the town, and the Town Hall which was built in 1808, Higham Ferrers has a lot of character which is also reflected in the wonderful farmer’s market held one Saturday a month in the market square where you can purchase fresh and local produce.

Higher Ferrers is home to St Mary’s Church which was founded in 1220 by King Henry III and it is home to an impressive nave and high altar. Visiting this stunning church is a must when staying in Higham Ferrers due to its history and beautiful interior.

Another interesting and historical structure to visit when in Higham Ferrers is The Bede House, which dates from 1422 and was a dwelling house for 12 men above the age of 50 to live with one woman who will take care of them. The house includes a large hall with a common room and is set in an enchanting and secluded garden.

The ruins of Chichele Cottage are also fantastic to see, as this building was founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Henry Chichele, in 1422 and after being a college, became an inn and then a farm. The hall is still intact, however, is often used for art displays and exhibitions throughout the year.

Just two miles from Higher Ferrers are the beautiful Stanwick Lakes, great to take the family to where you can go on adventure, heritage and nature trails, hire a boat, or even catch a production in the outdoor theatre. Also close to the town is Wellingborough which is just 6 miles away and makes a great day trip when having a cottage holiday in Higher Ferrers.
