The small village of Fotheringay is located in the county of Northamptonshire on the banks of the picturesque River Nene, and is a lovely settlement in which to rent self-catering accommodation due to its peaceful setting. The motte of the 12th century Fotheringay Castle can be seen nearby, although sadly that is all that remains of this historical structure as it was destroyed in 1627. Still, standing on the site of the castle and strolling by the nearby river makes a nice afternoon out, and there are plenty of spots here to stop for a picnic to soak up the tranquil atmosphere of Fotheringay.
There are few amenities in Fotheringay, although there is a 15th century church of St Mary and All Saints, and a friendly pub and restaurant, The Falcon Inn. There are also numerous cottages available to rent where you, your friends and your family can relax and unwind in comfort and privacy after a day of exploring your surroundings. These self-catering accommodations are brilliantly equipped with fantastic kitchens, cosy living areas and spacious bedrooms, and you may have excellent views over the meandering river.
Just 2 miles from Fotheringay are the beautiful Bluebell Lakes, which are renowned for being an excellent spot for carp fishing. If you are into the sport of fishing then you should definitely take a visit to these serene lakes, especially as they are so close to the village.
Fotheringay is a lovely little settlement on the north eastern side of Northamptonshire, 14 miles from Peterborough which is in fact a part of the county of Cambridgeshire. It is also only 12 miles from the town of Corby, and either makes an excellent day trip from Fotheringay.
