Edinburgh is an excellent destination for a family holiday. There is so much to do for people of all ages. There are numerous tourist attractions in Edinburgh to keep the children interested. The open top bus tours are a good way of getting to know what there is to see and identify locations for later visits. Edinburgh Zoo is one of the most open and well-designed zoos in the country. It has an excellent gift shop incorporating a children's book section. Edinburgh is splendid for any 'culture vulture' with historic exhibits, art galleries, and plenty of social history.
A car is essential if you plan to tour. Go 'Nessie spotting' at Loch Ness, pay a visit to Pitlochry to see the salmon ladder where the salmon swim upstream to spawn, or just view the spectacular scenery. Children will thoroughly enjoy paddling in shallow icy cold streams that run off the hills and be enthralled by the shy deer, swooping birds of prey and abundance of wildlife.

A comfortable and traditional stone-built cottage in an ideal rural location yet near Edinburgh and its attractions It's just perfect for a break close to Edinburgh for sightseeing and centrally located for touring Scotland to view the lochs, hills and coast. If you've never visited Scotland before you will really appreciate the relatively quiet roads and considerate drivers. Parking is as difficult in the city centres of Scotland's major cities as anywhere else but a Park and Ride facility is available for stress free and interesting days in Edinburgh. Lots of tourist attractions including the Castle, a superb zoo, art galleries and exhibitions.

The Pentland Hills are within an easy walk of the house and Skiing is minutes away at Hillend Ski slope,( longest dry ski slope in Europe). where there are two main slopes for snowboarding, ski-ing and blading. There is a chairlift, two drag tows and the facility is floodlit for winter evenings. Edinburgh reservoirs are available nearby for fishing and we are within 20 mins drive of the worlds largest indoor climbing arena at Ratho. Many Golf courses, gardens and swimming pools are within 10 minutes drive of the cottage.
