Come for a self-catering holiday to Avebury in Wiltshire. The Avebury World Heritage Site features the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world; about 14 times bigger than Stonehenge. The high street is quite charming; little more than a narrow lane lined with red brick and whitewashed cottages, all with flower-filled English style gardens.

Go for a walk around the village to see the old parish church, Avebury Manor Gardens, thatched cottages. Walk south east out of the village along West Kennet Avenue and the sight of prehistoric standing stones stands silhouetted against the sky. This stone circle is every bit as mysterious as Stonehenge.
