This is a great location for discovering the delights of North Devon Heritage coast, as well as Exmoor National Park which is only around 15 minutes' drive away.
Just 5 minutes' drive away is the lovely coastal town of Ilfracombe with its pretty harbour, 10 minutes' drive takes you to Combe Martin with its beautiful sandy beach and 20 minutes' drive takes you to Woolacombe's golden sandy beach which has been rated as one of the top beaches in Europe.
Equally though if you want to arrive at your holiday cottage and not have to drive for the duration of your holiday, Tollgate Cottage is an ideal location. Hele itself has two child and dog friendly pubs which serve good food and real ales as well as an award winning tearoom with a heritage watermill just a 3 minute walk away and a beach side cafe serving cooked breakfasts and snacks.
The South West Coastal Path walks into Combe Martin, Berrynarbor, Watermouth Cove, Lee and Ilfracombe, which are all within reach. For those who don't want to drive there is a reasonably priced taxi service too.

Tollgate Cottage is located in the village of Hele, 600m from the beach and 25 mins walk from Ilfracombe town centre. Hele itself is a village, with beach and rock pools, and coastal walks with beautiful views. Hele has a good family/dog friendly pub as well as a heritage watermill whose tearooms has won "Best Devon Tearoom" 4 times. Ilfracombe is the perfect location for North Devon holidays, offering you a gateway to an exciting blend of stunning coastal scenery, seaside fun, rural tranquility and centuries of heritage and style. Ilfracombe is a stunning coastal town with white washed houses, grand Victorian villas and terraces. Nestling between the National Park of Exmoor to the East and the golden coast with the surfing beaches to the West.
In Hele, 16th century working watermill with award winning tearoom. In Ilfracombe; the Victorian tunnels beaches, museum, aquarium, St Nicholas chapel, art galleries, harbour, roller skate arena, skate board park, Watermouth Castle (15 mins). 25 minutes away National Trust Arlington Court, The Dinosaur Park, Barnstaple Museum, Marwood Hill gardens, Woody Bay steam train. 45 minutes: Exmoor Zoo, The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Quince Honey Farm.
